Confidentiality and support

Confidentiality

Counselling is about enabling a safe space for you to talk and everything we discuss, over email, phone or in sessions is confidential.

However, there are some limits in where I would need to break this confidentiality. Please know that wherever possible I would talk to you first.

If you:

  • Discuss any harm or risk of harm to yourself or others
  • Disclose any safeguarding risks
  • Disclose any serious crime

Or if I was:

  • Required to disclose information by a court

Then I would have an ethical obligation to share information with the required parties.

As part of my membership to the BACP, I receive regular supervision where I discuss elements of my work with my supervisor, this is to ensure I am working ethically and safely, and identifying details are never shared.

I’ll go through all of this with you in our first session as it forms part of our contract and this gives you a chance to ask any questions. However, if you are unsure and want to ask anything before we start our work together, you are welcome to email me on sarahsloancounselling@gmail.com .
